The two companies are proposing two ways of operating that make use of the new capabilities of the Internet but, in my view, they represent mere extensions of the classical business model that is based on heavy investments in the shops network and minimal service for clients.
The article „Cora and Carrefour are Lunching Their Internet Operations” presents an alternative model and makes a comparison between the two approaches in the grocery retail industry. The solution proposed by Ocado in UK exploits the latest technological developments, overcomes the limitations of the classical model, takes into consideration the changing needs of customers and pays attention to the general evolution of the social and economic context. It represents a good example for redefining the strategy and operations within a given industry and so I invite you to comment about it.
